Interesting. Any thoughts?

Leaving Scotland

So sad. Tomorrow I leave Scotland to return to the States. It definitely doesn't feel like I've been here for 2 weeks. I'll post pics and a description of adventures once I get home.

Peace. Out.

Land of Scot

After 29 hours of traveling (including waking up at 4am to leave for the airport) I finally made it to Scotland! It has been SO good to catch up with Jeni and Matt and to meet Hosea (their AMAZING son) for the first time. Plus it's fun to actually be COLD in the winter. Things have been pretty chill so far, which is good..allowing my brain time to decompress after finals. Tomorrow we're off to the Farmer's Market and then I'm hittin the streets and exploring Edinburgh on my own.
And the good news keeps coming! I passed all of my classes, so I'll be continuing on for another quarter in vet school!

Pictures and detailed description of adventures to follow soon.

Rudolf visits the vet.

Proof that the pathology department at UCD is officially out of control:

"Why was Rudolf's nose so red?
a) He had a chronic drinking problem (toppling hot buttered rum to keep warm at the North Pole).
b) He had a congenital hamartoma.
c) He had a hemangiosarcoma.
d) He had a cold (those long holiday flights, you know)
e) He had a hematoma (those other reindeer were really jealous)"
-taken from an old final exam. Wow.

I'm going with the hemangiosarcoma...although I don't think they glow. What do you think?

Chim-chimney, chim chim, charoo!

1775: Sir Percival Pott recognized the risk of scrotal cancer in chimney sweeps.

Pathology, final final, 10am tomorrow. Woot.

California Knows How to Party

Even though there are some things I definitely don't appreciate about CA, I think it's a waste of my time (and yours) to dwell on them. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I present for your blog-reading pleasure, why I appreciate CA:

1) In 'N Out. No need to list anything else, but since a list isn't very list-y with only one item on it, we'll keep going.
2) Pretty much any climate/environment you could ever want: forests, deserts, ocean, agriculture, big cities, small cities, rivers/lakes, etc. Unfortunate exception: rainforests.
3) It helped shape who I am. (Cheeseball, yes. But it's Thanksgiving, gimme a break.)
4) Variety of people (ie high fashion vs. the most amazing mullet I've ever seen!!, awesome Christian communities in the heart of materialistic LA, etc). Kind of a lame list item, honestly I just wanted to mention the mullet I saw today.
5) California Poppies (not for the opiate properties, just the color).

What do you love about the Golden State?

Cancer is Funny?

Neoplastic cells as antisocial anarchists.
• They don’t play by the rules
• They act for their own good, not that of the “host”
• They can take over the “host”
• They get normal cells to help them take over

Welcome to vet school.

Crosswords

I love crosswords.
Rationalization for doing them during class:
1) Keeps me awake.
2) Sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment when finished.
3) Stimulates other areas of my brain.

End result: more learning!

Halloooo Zeeba Neighbah!

Hokay, so...
I feel like there's a lot of pressure on the first post. So let's take the pressure off and talk about some fun facts!
1) I'm eating amazing homemade chili.
2) The word vaccine came from "vacca" (=cow), since the first vaccine was developed using cow pox.
3) I'm out of fun facts. FOR NOW.
